PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Emerging Black Choreographers Incubator is to provide a platform of quality instruction and mentorship to support the visions and encourage the voices of the next generation of Black choreographers as we advocate for the sharing of bold, new works which center Black dance, Black bodies, Black stories, and the Black experience.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
Participants will gain an array of tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to continue to create and imagine poignant works for stage and film. Working alongside esteemed mentors and scholars in the field, each member of the cohort will walk away with a solid understanding of their work as an artist and that which they are achieving through their work.
The cohort will develop healthy inquiry about themselves and the world around them, clear concise approaches to their work and choreographic practice, and definitive strategies and practices to allow for dance making in the most expansive and effective way possible.
Participants will receive marketing exposure on Mojuba! Dance Collective website, social media platforms, and networks as well as free entry The Mojuba! Black Dance Fest. Ongoing support is available as incubator alumni through continued learning and network opportunities. Not only will the cohort present their works at the The Mojuba! Black Dance Fest, but also receive a stipend for participation.

THREE PHASE APPROACH
PREPARATION
From May to August,
engage with leaders and scholars in the field in 10 weeks of immersive and reflective study in a family-oriented mentorship environment.

PROCESS
Define and hone your choreographic process through riveting conversations, exciting workshops transformative sessions, labs, and lectures held virtually two Sundays a month.

PERFORMANCE
Present your finished works at the Mojuba! Black Dance Fest in the Fall AND receive a stipend for your participation
THIS PROGRAM IS IDEAL FOR
This program is designed for emerging to mid-career choreographers (18 years of age or older) whom Identify as Black or of the African Diaspora. We define emerging to mid career as an artist with at least 3-5 years of experience who has presented on a professional stage or venue. Such artists have taken the time to investigate to in order to develop clear artistic intention and inquiry.

The Emerging Black Choreographers incubator is ideal for those seeking an accelerated and intimate, immersive learning experience to challenge and expand their approaches to dance making. Those looking for a flexible professional development opportunity will appreciate the virtual format and convenient schedule.
Preference may be given to those with interest in line with the mission and core values of Mojuba! Dance Collective.

READY TO APPLY?
We are excited to receive your application for the Emerging Black Choreographers Incubator.
Applications for the 2021 cohort open February 15th, 2021 and is available to complete online. ​​
The application deadline is March 29th, 2021
Please prepare a 3-5min video submission of choreographic work that speaks to and is an example of your artistic perspective and the work you intend to create (via YouTube or Vimeo links).

Invitations to interview and to submit further application materials (i.e. resume, artistic statement, etc) will be sent out the first week of April.
A select group will then be asked to participate in two preliminary workshops, and the final group group will begin the incubator virtually May15th, 2021.
