Youth Dance Leadership Institute (5-18)

Service Description

The Institute is designed for young people who want to deepen their artistic training while developing leadership skills, cultural knowledge, confidence, discipline, and community engagement. Students receive year-round instruction in Classical dance, African Diaspora dance traditions, performance, choreography, cultural history, and creative leadership in a supportive and inspiring environment. Each student will be placed in the appropriate learning community based on age and experience. Learning Communities: Watoto Sprouts (Children - Swahili): Discovering joy and movement. Early Childhood (Ages 5–6): Planting confidence, creativity, and rhythm. Mizizi Movers (Roots- Swahili): Building strong roots in technique and culture. Youth (Ages 7–12): Building strong technique, identity, and cultural knowledge. For young dancers with some experience. Ubuntu Leaders (I am because we are - Xhosa and Zulu): Using one's gifts in service to the community. Teens (Ages 13–18): Developing artistry, leadership, discipline, and community impact. Mwanzo Movers (Beginning/Origin – Swahili): Where movement, imagination, and confidence begin. For young dancers just starting out.
